Glowe, a former fishing village, is located at the entrance to an eight-kilometre-long spit in the north-east of the island of Rügen. Here the Jasmund and Wittow peninsulas meet and are separated only by a narrow inlet, the so-called Schaabe. The kilometre-long sandy beach is a wonderful place to swim in summer and to take wonderful walks in wind and weather, with a fantastic view of the sea and the lighthouse in the north of the island, at Cape Arkona. Along the sea promenade and the marina, visitors will find restaurants and shops in a historical ambience, which gives the place an interesting character. Nature lovers appreciate Glowe and its surroundings for being nestled between the sea and the Bodden, and for the rich variety of flora and fauna.
