    The island of Rügen, one of the most popular holiday destinations in Germany, is the largest and probably also the most beautiful island in Germany with 926 km² and a recordable 1,900 hours of sunshine a year. It lies off the Baltic coast of Western Pomerania and belongs to the district of Western Pomerania-Rügen in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The “gateway” to the island of Rügen is the Hanseatic city of Stralsund, connected to the island by the Rügen Dam and Rügen Bridge across the two-kilometre-wide Strelasund. Rügen has a maximum length of 52 km (from south to north) and a maximum width of 41 km in the south. Dalkvitz is a district of the municipality of Zirkow in the south-eastern part of Rügen. The village is very centrally located and is only about eight minutes by car from the island capital Bergen auf Rügen, the town of Putbus and the Baltic resort of Binz, and is well connected to the public transport network. Nestled in forests, meadows and lakes, Dalkvitz offers a quiet residential environment. The municipality of Zirkow looks back on a long and varied history. Long before it was first mentioned in 1495, Slavs had already settled in the area of today’s village. They left behind a number of burial mounds, which can still be discovered today when hiking. The vast forests and fields in the Southeast Rügen Nature Reserve and Biosphere Reserve also provide varied impressions of this beautiful landscape.
